One of Britain’s most respected gentleman in offshore powerboat racing passed away unexpectedly on Saturday 4th November. John Iddon, who celebrated his 90th birthday in August, was a talented boat designer, engineer, powerboat racer and RYA official. He was also a long time member of the Royal Motor Yacht Club and his quiet unassuming manner made him many friends in the offshore community.
A legacy of John Iddon is that he founded COPC, a club for genuine offshore enthusiasts of vintage and veteran powerboats, and over the years COPC has grown from strength to strength. The name John Iddon will continue to be part of the club as John’s son, also called John, has followed in his father’s footsteps and will be flying the Iddon burgee for many years to come.
