It appears few people at the UIM Awards dinner/presentations this week were aware that UIM President Raffael Chuilli has negotiated with senior figures in the Chinese Powerboat Federation and UIM Asia has been created.

The news has appeared in the Italian press but we have not seen it elsewhere. UIM General Secretary Thomas Kurth has pointed out, “It make sense that the UIM has an office in a continent that has so much potential.”
It isn’t clear whether UIM Asia will be a stand-alone organisation, but a President has been appointed, Mr Lu Shan which suggests it is. And who appointed the UIM Asia President, the President of UIM Monaco?
The UIM Asia office is in Xiamen and will presumably have a major say in offshore and circuit events in Asia, as well as having its own training academy, but whether they start creating their own committees remains to be seen.
