The UIM have announced a provisional calendar for the popular XCat series and it features three races in China – Tianjin 15th-17th Sept, Haiyang 22nd-24th Sept, and Hangzhou 20th-22nd Oct before returning to the UAE for the final two rounds.
The most successful XCat team since the series was launched in 2013 has been the Victory pairing of Al Zaffain and Bin Hendi who have won the title each year. However, this crew have parted company with Victory and for the new series their seats have been taken by Eisa Al Ali and Salem Al Adidi in Victory 3. They were runners-up to Al Zaffain and Bin Hendi in 2016.
Chairman of the Victory Board Huraiz Al Mur Mohammed Bin Huraiz said, “We expected an announcement from the UIM regarding a 2017 XCat Series, but because it came rather late we are only able to field one boat. However, the crew are experienced and we are hopeful of retaining the world title.”
During the Evian F1 event we asked Victory’s Chairman what plans they had for the fleet of Class 1 boats now that Class 1 is dormant, and although he was unable to state anything concrete, it has been suggested that they may end up in a proposed museum for offshore racing in Dubai which would be a big attraction. Victory has been the most successful offshore team since their launch in the early 1990’s and they have got a very prestigious collection of craft to fill a museum.
