Brian Peddell from Slough, Berkshire was crowned 2017 National Class 1 Champion after winning all three races at the ‘Grand Finale’ in Torquay this weekend (7th/8th Oct).  He and navigator Andrew Yeo were invincible aboard the Volvo powered Batboat ‘D.B.Express’ thrilling  the crowds that lined Haldon Pier.  The decibal level of the V8 Volvo exhausts stood out above the screaming outboard motors.

After collecting his award, Peddell surprised the gathered crowd by announcing his retirement. “I have enjoyed a long racing career and am delighted to be retiring as Class 1 champion.  However, although I’m stepping away from the racing, I am forming a rescue and safety team for 2018 and we will be attending the OCRDA programme.  My wife Pat has been my staunchest supporter from the very beginning and most of the time my navigator. In an incident a few years ago Pat received a back injury that prevented her from racing but she will now be able to play an active role in the Rescue and Safety team and we are both excited about joining forces again.”
