If Florida’s ace throttleman Shaun Torrente from Team Abu Dhabi fulfils his plans, he could end 2018 with two UIM world titles.
Torrente has already secured the 2018 World XCats championship following the cancellation of the final race of the series and that stroke of luck means Torrente and co-pilot Faleh Al-Mansori in their Abu Dhabi sponsored XCat had enough points to be crowned gold medalist.
With two races to go Shaun Torrente is now also within striking distance of winning the 2018 UIM World F1 title as he leads the championship standings on 72 points from Stark on 65 and Al Qemzi now third on 54. The top three all belong to Team Abu Dhabi managed by Italian Guido Cappelini with Peter Morin now the closest challenger in fourth on 39 points.
Pole sitter Torrente made another perfect start in the final Amaravati race, and completed the 44 laps to win by 2.17s and record his seventh-career victory. “I made two great starts and it was all about managing the race.” Said Torrente. “For me it’s about winning the championship not just races. The goal is to be in this position after Sharjah. Our home race is next so we hope we can keep it going. The podium is great but the points after Sharjah is what matters and we have two races to go.”
